Terms of Service
Effective date: 20th of September 2026.
These terms are the agreement between you and Olgica Djuric, an independent developer in Serbia who builds and runs chess42.xyz. There is no company behind it; in these terms, "chess42.xyz" means that person. By creating an account you accept these terms. How personal data is handled is described separately in the Privacy Policy, linked at the foot of this page.
1. What chess42.xyz is
chess42.xyz is chess for all generations: a platform for chess coaching, made as a contribution to the chess community. Age is no limit in chess, and it is not a limit here — the youngest players learn alongside a parent, and adults and grandparents learn and teach on the same terms. Gens una sumus — we are one family. Coaches build curriculums, assign homework, publish books and teach live lessons; students learn, answer homework, analyse and play. It also offers an analysis board, play against engines, a library and a mental-fitness journal, and — as it becomes available — an AI coach.
2. What chess42.xyz is responsible for, and what it is not
chess42.xyz provides the platform. It is responsible for two things:
- the features — building, running and maintaining the tools described in
section 1;
- reviewing coach applications — deciding which accounts may coach, as
described in section 4.
Everything people do on the platform is their own responsibility:
- what users post — games, notes, homework, messages, books, puzzles and
profiles belong to, and are the responsibility of, the person who posted them;
- how users behave — towards each other, in chat, in live lessons and
anywhere else on the platform;
- what coaches teach — the content and quality of lessons, homework and
advice, and any arrangement between a coach and a student;
- what happens off the platform — payments, meetings or contact between
users outside chess42.xyz.
chess42.xyz does not review content before it is posted and does not watch lessons or messages. It acts when something is reported (section 6).
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to have your own account.
- If you are 13 or older but below the age of digital consent in your country —
15 in Serbia, and between 13 and 16 in EU member states — you may use chess42.xyz only with the consent of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf.
- **Children under 13 are welcome to learn chess here through the account of a
parent or guardian**, who uses it with the child and is responsible for everything done with it. A child under 13 must not have an account of their own; one that is found is closed and its data deleted.
- **Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising how their child uses
chess42.xyz**, including which coach the child works with and the child's live lessons.
- Give accurate information and keep your password to yourself. You are
responsible for everything done under your account.
- One person, one account. Accounts cannot be transferred.
- Write to hello@chess42.xyz if you think someone else is using your account.
4. Coaches
- Reviewing an application means checking the information the applicant
gives, such as their name, title and rating, before allowing the account to coach. It is not a background check, and approval is not a guarantee of a coach's qualifications, teaching quality or conduct.
- chess42.xyz may approve, refuse or withdraw coaching status at any time.
- Coaches are independent. They are not employees, agents or partners of
chess42.xyz, and they do not act on its behalf.
- Coaches are responsible for their lessons, for the information in their
application being true, and for following the laws that apply to them — including any that apply to working with children.
- Any payment or other arrangement between a coach and a student is made
outside chess42.xyz and is solely between them.
- When you invite a student by email, you confirm that you have a genuine
coaching relationship with that person and are entitled to use their address.
- A coach may not book a lesson with themselves as the student.
5. Your content and conduct
- You keep ownership of everything you create: games, analysis, notes,
homework, curriculums, books, puzzles, chat messages and journal entries.
- You are solely responsible for it. chess42.xyz does not endorse content
posted by users, and it is not responsible for it.
- You give chess42.xyz the permission needed to run the service with your
content — to store it, keep copies for recovering from a failed update, display it to the people you share it with, and, if you publish a library item as "link" or "public", to show it to anyone with access. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content that is part of someone else's record, such as a lesson you both took part in.
- Library books and the AI coach. You also give chess42.xyz permission to
use the text of your library books — chapters, lines and comments — so that the AI coach can quote and explain them, and to show the book as the source. The AI coach only uses a book to answer someone who is already allowed to see it: a private book answers only you, a book shared by link answers only people with the link, and a public book answers anyone. Deleting the book ends this permission.
- Only post content you have the right to share. Chess moves and positions are
not owned by anyone; commentary, annotations and books written by others may be.
Do not:
- harass, threaten, groom or abuse anyone, or send unwanted contact;
- impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your identity, age, title, rating or
qualifications;
- post content that is unlawful, infringes someone else's rights, or is
inappropriate for a platform used by children;
- try to access other users' data, break the security of the service, or
overload it;
- scrape the service, or use it to send spam.
6. Reporting a problem
If you see content or behaviour that breaks these terms or the law, report it:
- Email report@chess42.xyz with a link to, or a description of, the content
or account, and a short explanation of the problem.
- If you own the rights to a book, annotation or other work posted without
your permission, report it the same way, and say which work is yours.
- If someone is in immediate danger, contact the police first. chess42.xyz
is not an emergency service.
Every report is reviewed by a person. chess42.xyz may then remove content, restrict features, suspend or close an account, or take no action. When content is removed or an account restricted, the person affected is told what was done and why, and can reply to ask for the decision to be reviewed again. chess42.xyz informs the authorities where the law requires it.
7. Engines, analysis and the AI coach
Engine evaluations, Maia predictions, position metrics and suggested moves are tools for learning. They can be wrong, and they are not a guarantee of any result.
The AI coach answers chess questions using books and comments written by coaches on chess42.xyz, and shows where an answer came from. It is a supporting tool only:
- it can be wrong — it may misread a position or state something that is not
true, so check what matters with a coach, an engine or the source it cites;
- it does not decide anything — it does not review reports, restrict
accounts, judge homework or decide the result of any game;
- it is not a coach — it does not replace a person's teaching, and nothing
it says is advice from chess42.xyz or from the coach whose book it quotes;
- do not share personal or sensitive information with it; section 3 of the
Privacy Policy explains what it receives and how long it is kept.
8. Free to use
- chess42.xyz is free to use. Every feature is available without paying.
- If paid features are ever introduced, they will be announced in advance, and
nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement.
9. Availability, and keeping your own copies
- chess42.xyz is built and maintained by one person. The aim is to keep it
available and your data safe, but uninterrupted service cannot be promised, and fixes may take time.
- Features may be changed, added or removed at any time. chess42.xyz may also
stop offering the service altogether; if it does, you will get reasonable notice so that you can save your work.
- Keep your own copies of anything important to you. Games can be
downloaded as PGN from the analysis board. chess42.xyz does not promise that stored content will never be lost.
10. Other services
chess42.xyz works with services run by others — for example signing in with Google, and links to Lichess, Chess.com or FIDE profiles. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and chess42.xyz is not responsible for them. Anything you do with them is between you and that service.
11. No warranty
chess42.xyz is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, no promise is made that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for any particular purpose, or that any user, coach, AI coach answer or content on it is accurate, safe or suitable.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, chess42.xyz is not liable for:
- content posted by users, or the conduct of any user or coach, on or off the
platform;
- lessons, homework, advice or arrangements between coaches and students;
- answers given by the AI coach, and anything done in reliance on them;
- loss caused by the service being unavailable, by lost content, or by engine
or analysis results;
- services run by others (section 10);
- indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit or opportunity.
Where chess42.xyz is liable despite this, its total liability is limited to 50 euros.
None of this limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited — including for intent or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury — and none of it removes rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of your country.
13. Your responsibility towards others
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover the costs, claims and damages that chess42.xyz faces because of content you posted, the way you used the platform, or your breach of these terms.
14. Ending the agreement
- You can stop using chess42.xyz and ask for your account to be deleted at any
time by writing to hello@chess42.xyz.
- chess42.xyz may suspend or close any account at its discretion — for example
when an account breaks these terms, puts other users at risk, belongs to a child under 13, or has been inactive for a long time — and will give the reason wherever possible.
15. Changes to these terms
Material changes will be announced in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can close your account before then.
16. Transfer
chess42.xyz may transfer this agreement, and the running of the platform, to a company or organisation that takes over chess42.xyz — for example a business set up by its owner. Your rights under these terms and under the Privacy Policy stay the same after such a transfer. You may not transfer your account or this agreement to anyone else.
17. If part of these terms is invalid
If a court or authority finds any part of these terms invalid or unenforceable, that part is applied as far as the law allows, and the rest of the terms stay in full force. If chess42.xyz does not enforce a part of these terms at some point, it has not given up the right to enforce it later. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and chess42.xyz about using the platform.
18. Disputes
Please write to hello@chess42.xyz first — most problems are solved faster that way. If you are a consumer living in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence, and you may bring a claim in its courts.
